The Everest Base Camp Trek is a bucket-list adventure for trekkers from around the globe. This 14-day journey takes you through the breathtaking landscapes of the Himalayas, with spectacular views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. Immerse yourself in the Sherpa culture, visit ancient monasteries, and walk along trails that have inspired generations of adventurers. From the bustling streets of Kathmandu to the serene environment of Everest Base Camp, this trek offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
This two-week adventure begins in Kathmandu, where you’ll prepare for the trek and fly to Lukla. Over the next 12 days, you’ll hike through picturesque villages, dense forests, and high-altitude landscapes. Key stops include Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Gorak Shep before reaching Everest Base Camp. The trek concludes with a return to Lukla and a flight back to Kathmandu.
Depending on the season, your flight to Lukla may depart from Kathmandu or Manthali Airport. During high traffic months (March–May and September–November), an early morning drive (approx. 5 hours) to Manthali is required before your flight. In off-peak months, flights operate directly from Kathmandu.
For those wishing to skip the long drive, helicopter transport is available at an extra cost (approx. $550 when shared).
After arriving in Lukla, your trek kicks off with a descent through Chaurikharka village, leading to the riverside trail that takes you to Phakding.
The trail today follows the Dudh Koshi River north, crossing multiple suspension bridges, including the iconic Hillary Bridge. You’ll register your permits at the Sagarmatha National Park checkpoint and ascend through dense forest, eventually reaching your first viewpoint of Mt. Everest before entering Namche Bazaar.
This day is for rest and altitude adaptation. Options include short hikes to the Everest View Hotel, Khunde Hospital, or Syangboche Airstrip for panoramic views. The town also offers bakeries, cafes, and shops for a relaxed afternoon.
A scenic day featuring forest trails and the occasional wildlife sighting—look out for musk deer and Himalayan pheasants. After a descent to Phunki Thenga, the final stretch climbs steadily to Tengboche, known for its famous monastery and mountain vistas.
You’ll trek past Pangboche and numerous chortens before reaching Dingboche, where you'll see terraced fields protected by stone walls. This is a vital stop for acclimatization at higher elevations.
Use this rest day for a short acclimatization hike up the nearby ridge for excellent views of Makalu, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam. The day helps your body adjust to the increasing altitude.
The trail ascends gradually to Dughla and then steepens as you approach the Thukla Pass, marked by memorials to climbers. From there, a gentle path leads to Lobuche alongside the Khumbu Glacier.
Today’s highlight is your trek to Everest Base Camp, with a short stop in Gorak Shep before continuing onward. At EBC, take in the views of the Khumbu Icefall and celebrate reaching this iconic destination. Afterward, return to Gorak Shep for the night.
A pre-dawn hike to Kala Patthar offers one of the best viewpoints of Everest and surrounding peaks. After sunrise, return to Gorak Shep for breakfast, then descend to Pheriche.
Descending through lush forests and alpine terrain, you’ll retrace your steps to Tengboche, where the peaceful surroundings and monastery provide a welcome rest.
The trail offers different perspectives as you head back down, passing through familiar villages and rhododendron forests before reaching Namche for your overnight stay.
Continue descending along the Dudh Koshi River, crossing suspension bridges and revisiting small Sherpa settlements until you reach Phakding.
The final day of trekking involves a gradual ascent back to Lukla, where you can reflect on your journey and celebrate the completion of your adventure.
Depending on the season, you’ll fly directly to Kathmandu or to Manthali followed by a road transfer. Helicopter options are available for a quicker return. Once back in Kathmandu, your time is free to relax or explore the city.
What is the highest altitude we will reach?
