The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek is a classic Himalayan journey that takes you to the foot of Annapurna I (8,091 m), the 10th highest mountain in the world. This 12-day trek offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and panoramic mountain views. The trail passes through diverse landscapes, from terraced fields and lush rhododendron forests to high-altitude glacial basins. Along the way, you’ll encounter charming Gurung and Magar villages, rich in culture and hospitality. Annapurna Base Camp itself is a spectacular amphitheater surrounded by towering peaks, making it a trekker's paradise.
This 12-day trek begins with a scenic drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, followed by trekking through picturesque villages like Tikhedhunga, Ghorepani, and Chhomrong. The trail gradually ascends through forests and pastures, reaching the spectacular Annapurna Base Camp. After enjoying the awe-inspiring views, the trek descends through Bamboo and Jhinu Danda, where you can relax in natural hot springs. The journey concludes with a return to Pokhara.

After breakfast, we begin our scenic drive to Pokhara, a vibrant lakeside city west of Kathmandu. The route winds alongside the Trishuli and Marsyangdi rivers, offering glimpses of terraced hills, local villages, and gushing streams.
Pokhara, set against the majestic Annapurna range, is home to peaceful lakes like Phewa and Begnas. Surrounded by Himalayan giants like Annapurna (8,091m), Machhapuchhre (6,993m), and Manaslu (8,156m), the valley is a haven for nature lovers and adventurers alike.

After a relaxing morning in Pokhara, we drive to Nayapul and continue past Birethanti to Tikhedhunga. This section blends smooth roads with bumpy off-road trails. From Tikhedhunga, our hike begins as we ascend through Sudame and Hile, eventually reaching Ulleri.
The day begins with a steady uphill trail through dense rhododendron forests. Towering
peaks like Machhapuchhre, Annapurna, and Hiunchuli occasionally appear through the trees. We reach the mountain village of Ghorepani, known for its extraordinary panoramic views of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, Nilgiri, and Annapurna ranges.

We begin pre-dawn to reach Poon Hill in time for the golden sunrise. The viewpoint offers a sweeping panorama of more than 30 peaks including Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and the Annapurnas. After breakfast back in Ghorepani, we trek through lush forests and ridges to Tadapani. If time allows, we may push further to the village of Chuile.

From either Chuile or Tadapani, we head downhill through Ghandruk, cross the Kimrong River, and ascend to the gateway village of Chomrong, perched below Annapurna South. If we started from Chuile, we may stop earlier in Sinuwa.

Today’s trail winds through bamboo forests and along high ridges. From Chomrong, we descend steeply then climb steadily through villages like Bamboo and Khuldigar, reaching the lodges at Himalaya. Depending on the starting point and pace, we may
continue on to Deurali for the night.

We follow the Modi Khola Valley, pass Hinku Cave and the scenic Deurali lodges, and climb through the high alpine landscape to Machhapuchhre Base Camp. From there, we continue on to Annapurna Base Camp, where a breathtaking 360-degree mountain amphitheater awaits, surrounded by Annapurna I, South, Machhapuchhre, and other towering peaks.

After an unforgettable night at ABC, we begin descending through familiar trails. We retrace our steps down the glacier valley and rhododendron forest until we reach Bamboo, a quiet stop nestled in the greenery.

The trail descends through lush forest and across small rivers until we reach Jhinu Danda. Here, we’ll enjoy a rewarding soak in the natural hot springs located a short walk downhill from the village—a perfect way to relax after days of trekking.

Our final morning on the trail begins with an easy walk along the Modi Khola’s banks. After reaching Siwa or Ghandruk Phedi, we drive through the scenic hillsides back to Pokhara. Enjoy a comfortable night in the city.

We bid farewell to Pokhara and return to Kathmandu by tourist bus. The route again follows river valleys and terraced landscapes before climbing back to the Kathmandu Valley. Optionally, a short 20-minute flight is available at an extra cost.
Do I need prior trekking experience for this trek?
While prior trekking experience is not mandatory, it is recommended to have a moderate level of physical fitness and the ability to walk 5-7 hours a day on uneven terrain. Acclimatization days are included to help with altitude adjustment.
Are there any risks of altitude sickness on this trek?
Yes, altitude sickness is a possibility as the trek takes you above 5,000 meters. However, proper acclimatization days and following your guide’s instructions can help minimize risks.
